A Rush of Blood to the Head was their second studio album and featured the hits “Clocks”, “The Scientist”, and the lead single “In My Place”. X&Y followed in 2005 and immediately was a big seller and ended up being the best selling album in 2005 with over 8 million units sold worldwide. The disc featured “Speed of Sound”, “Talk”, “Fix You”, and “White Shadows”.
During this period, Coldplay was touring worldwide and acquiring more fans. During this period, the band was being compared to U2 as the next greatest band in the world. Coldplay tickets were in high demand and the American fan base had taken hold as evidenced by the sold out arenas in many cities.
The bands release in 2008 was Viva La Vida. The self named single soared to number one on the Billboard Top 100 and was the band’s first number one hit. “Violet Hill”, “Viva La Vida”, “Life in Technicolor”, and “Lost” were singles released by the group.
